2026
Lower Burrell. Police shooting. Police responded to Rodgers Drive around 6:30 p.m. after a report that a gunshot had been fired into an occupied home, and a man barricaded himself inside a residence. Police said he fired at Westmoreland County SWAT members after they deployed gas and SWAT returned fire, wounding him; he was charged with attempted homicide, no officers were hurt, and the district attorney later ruled the use of force justified.

Lower Burrell. Robbery. Police said two men assaulted a man in his 70s during a dispute at a bar on Leechburg Road. Both were charged with robbery, simple assault, theft and related counts, and the charges were held for court.
Arnold. Shooting. Three men were wounded in an exchange of gunfire on Leishman Avenue around 7 p.m. on a Wednesday, and all were taken to hospitals with injuries that were not life-threatening. Officials described the shooting as an isolated incident.
2025
New Kensington. Homicide. A man in his 40s was shot outside the New Kensington Elks Lodge on Third Avenue just before 3 a.m. following an argument inside, and he died at a hospital. Another man involved in the argument was charged with criminal homicide.
Arnold. Shooting. A man was found with multiple gunshot wounds inside a house on 3rd Avenue and was expected to survive. Another man was charged with attempted homicide and was being held without bail.
New Kensington. Shooting. A man was shot twice during an argument in the courtyard of the Valley Royal Court housing complex around 12:35 p.m. and was flown to a hospital. Police said the suspect barricaded himself in an apartment and surrendered to SWAT officers without police firing any shots, and the nearby Westmoreland County Community College campus, schools and City Hall were briefly locked down.
Arnold. Fire. Firefighters were called at 12:27 a.m. on a Tuesday in August 2025 for smoke from a building in the 1600 block of Kenneth Avenue in Arnold that neighbors said was unoccupied. The fire chief said there were signs people had been staying there and suggested they may have started the fire; no charges were reported.
New Kensington. Police pursuit. A New Kensington officer spotted a reported stolen SUV on Tarentum Bridge Road in July 2025, and police said the driver fled at high speed to the Pittsburgh Mills mall with two passengers in the vehicle. A man was charged with kidnapping, unlawful restraint, receiving stolen property, reckless endangerment and fleeing police.
New Kensington. Drug case. Following an undercover drug investigation, police served a search warrant at a residence in the 1200 block of Woodmont Avenue in New Kensington in April 2025 and reported seizing 27 bricks of suspected heroin or fentanyl and more than $10,000 in cash. A man was charged with several drug offenses.
Arnold. Stabbing. Police said two men had non-life-threatening stab wounds after a fight in an apartment in the 2000 block of Freeport Road in Arnold around 7:30 a.m. on Feb. 9, 2025. Both were charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and drug offenses.
2024
Lower Burrell. Shooting. Police said a man fired a gun through a shared apartment wall on Arnold Avenue in Lower Burrell just before 1 a.m. on Nov. 23, 2024, allegedly after complaining about noise; the bullet passed over the head of a person in the adjoining unit. The man was charged with attempted homicide and aggravated assault.
New Kensington. Drug case. Agents from the state Attorney General's Office, the Westmoreland County Drug Task Force and New Kensington police served a search warrant at a home on Leishman Avenue on Nov. 18, 2024, and reported seizing nearly 600 stamp bags of suspected fentanyl, several firearms and more than $8,600 in cash. Two people were charged with drug and weapons offenses.
Lower Burrell. Drug case. On Oct. 25, 2024, Lower Burrell police searched a gas station convenience store in the 2700 block of Leechburg Road as part of an undercover investigation into alleged illegal THC vape sales, seizing items suspected of containing marijuana and Delta-8 and Delta-9 THC, along with cash. Several people were later charged in the investigation, according to the district attorney's office.
Lower Burrell. Drug case. Lower Burrell police searched a vape shop on Leechburg Road on Oct. 25, 2024, one of several businesses searched in an undercover investigation into THC vape sales. Police said products bought there undercover tested positive for Schedule I substances, and several people were charged in the investigation.
Lower Burrell. Drug case. Police served a search warrant at a vape shop in the 3000 block of Leechburg Road in Lower Burrell on Oct. 25, 2024, as part of an undercover investigation into alleged sales of illegal THC vape products. Police said products and cash were seized.
Arnold. Homicide. Police responding to a report of a stabbing around 5:38 p.m. in August 2024 found a woman with multiple stab wounds in the street in the 100 block of Liberty Avenue; she died at the scene. A man was charged with homicide, including first-degree murder, according to the district attorney.
New Kensington. Homicide. On July 5, 2024, a man in his 50s was found dead from stab wounds inside a home in the 600 block of Freeport Road, according to the Westmoreland County district attorney. A man was charged with criminal homicide, burglary and criminal trespass.
New Kensington. Shooting. Shortly after 7 p.m. on April 15, 2024, police said two people fired shots toward three people standing outside a building entrance at the Valley Royal Court apartment complex, near Fifth Avenue and Hileman Drive. A man was charged with three counts of attempted homicide.
Arnold. Shooting. Police said two men exchanged gunfire in Cherry Alley between 14th and 15th streets around 5:45 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, 2024, and bullets struck several homes, vehicles and construction materials. Both men left the scene, and police said they were searching for them.
New Kensington. Drug case. On Feb. 17, 2024, investigators arrested two men at a house in the 1800 block of Seventh Street and reported seizing about 22 pounds of cocaine, as part of a federal investigation into alleged cocaine trafficking. More people were later federally indicted in the case.
New Kensington. Burglary. Around 3:30 a.m. on Jan. 22, 2024, burglars drove a pickup truck stolen from another local business through the front door of a gun store on Freeport Street and took 24 firearms, according to authorities. Two men were arrested within two days and were later indicted by a federal grand jury.
Arnold. Shooting. The district attorney said three people broke into a home in the 1600 block of Fourth Avenue on a Friday evening in January 2024, and a resident fired a gun; one of the intruders, a man, was found fatally wounded in Cherry Alley behind the home around 6 p.m. The resident was later charged with firearms, drug and receiving-stolen-property offenses.
2023
Lower Burrell. Homicide. A man was fatally shot outside a business on Leechburg Road in Lower Burrell just after 9 a.m. on Dec. 21, 2023. Police said a Lower Burrell man came to City Hall minutes later and was charged with criminal homicide.
New Kensington. Homicide. Police found a man in his 30s who had been shot on the front porch of a home in the 1000 block of Kenneth Avenue around 3:20 p.m. on Oct. 19, 2023, and he died at a Pittsburgh hospital two days later. A New Kensington man was later charged with criminal homicide, according to the district attorney's office.
Arnold. Arson. Police said a fire reported around 1:16 p.m. on Oct. 1, 2023, in the 1700 block of Leishman Avenue in Arnold was the third of four deliberately set fires that weekend. A man was later charged in all four fires and pleaded guilty.
Arnold. Arson. Police said a fire set on the rear deck of a house in the 1500 block of Leishman Avenue in Arnold around 9:39 p.m. on Oct. 1, 2023, damaged the back of the home and was the last of four deliberately set fires that weekend. A man was later charged in all four fires and pleaded guilty.
Arnold. Arson. Police said a fire set in the 1500 block of Fourth Avenue in Arnold around 10:34 a.m. on Sept. 30, 2023, was the first of four deliberately set fires in Arnold and New Kensington that weekend. A man was later charged in all four fires and pleaded guilty in May 2024.
New Kensington. Arson. Police said a fire reported around 10:56 p.m. on Sept. 30, 2023, in the 1200 block of Leishman Avenue in New Kensington was the second of four deliberately set fires that weekend. A man was later charged in all four fires and pleaded guilty.
New Kensington. Police pursuit. Police said a pickup truck hit a parked SUV in the 400 block of Catalpa Street around 2 a.m. on a Sunday and left. After a brief pursuit, New Kensington and Lower Burrell officers stopped the truck at gunpoint at Ridge Avenue and North Street, and the driver was charged with DUI and fleeing.
New Kensington. Homicide. Police said two people exchanged gunfire in the courtyard of the Valley Royal Court apartments off Fourth Avenue, near the JFK playground, around noon on a Sunday. One person died, and the other was wounded and went to the nearby police station for help.
Arnold. Drug case. Arnold police and state Attorney General's agents served a search warrant at a home and a vehicle in the 1700 block of Victoria Avenue and reported finding about 200 packets of suspected fentanyl, crystal methamphetamine and nearly $5,000 in cash. A man was charged with possession with intent to deliver, according to the district attorney's office.
Arnold. Drug case. Arnold police and agents from the state Attorney General's office served a search warrant at a home in the 1900 block of Woodmont Avenue. Police said they seized crack cocaine, pills, drug-packaging materials and scales, and a man was charged with possession with intent to deliver.
New Kensington. Police pursuit. A police pursuit that began when state troopers tried to stop a driver on Freeport Road in East Deer ended on the New Kensington Bridge, where the fleeing car hit a Pittsburgh Regional Transit bus and a tractor-trailer. Police said the driver was taken into custody and jailed.
2022
Arnold. Shooting. A vehicle was struck by gunfire in the 1900 block of Kenneth Avenue around midday, and no injuries were reported. Police said the suspects fled across the New Kensington Bridge and through several neighboring communities before leaving their car on foot, which prompted a search by several departments; two people were later arrested and charged with attempted homicide.
Arnold. Drug case. Multiple agencies served a search warrant at a home on Fourth Avenue, where police said they found about 15 pounds of marijuana, small amounts of heroin and crack cocaine, several guns, ammunition and cash. Two adults were charged with drug and gun offenses.
New Kensington. Homicide. A man in his late 30s was fatally shot just outside a door of the Valley Royal Court apartment complex after a group confronted him in the lobby during what prosecutors described as an attempted robbery. Seven people were charged, and one defendant was later convicted of first-degree murder.
Arnold. Shooting. A man was shot multiple times outside the Arnold Manor high-rise in the 1600 block of Horne Boulevard. Police said officers caught a suspect after a foot chase and found a loaded pistol and suspected cocaine, and he was charged with attempted homicide.
New Kensington. Shooting. Police responding to a report of shots fired in the 1300 block of Leishman Avenue found a man with multiple gunshot wounds. He was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital and was reported in stable condition, and county detectives assisted with the investigation.
Arnold. Drug case. State and county law enforcement served a warrant at a home on Fourth Avenue, where police said they seized crystal methamphetamine, suboxone, some fentanyl, cash and a pistol. Two men were arrested: one was charged with drug and firearm offenses and the other was held on an outstanding warrant.
New Kensington. Drug case. The Westmoreland County Drug Task Force and state narcotics agents served a search warrant at a home in the 800 block of Kenneth Avenue. Police said they found fentanyl, crack and powder cocaine, drug-packaging supplies, two handguns and body armor, and two adults were arrested.
2020
New Kensington. Police shooting. Officers from New Kensington, Arnold and Lower Burrell found a man walking up Center Avenue with a shotgun. Police say an officer fired after he pointed it at them, and he died at the scene; the coroner and DA investigated.

2018
Lower Burrell. Police shooting. Lower and Upper Burrell officers answered a 911 call about an armed man at a house. Police said he did not obey repeated commands to drop a handgun, and a Lower Burrell officer shot and killed him; the DA said a loaded pistol was found beside him.
